Capoeira Prague — culture in motion
Capoeira is the art of connection, teamwork and creativity.

Capoeira is more than a martial art

Play body chess
Capoeira is often compared to “body chess” because of its strategy and tactics. It is a dynamic martial art where players use different techniques to gain an advantage over their opponent. Similar to chess, each move in Capoeira has meaning and contributes to the overall strategy of the game. This makes it a very intelligent and challenging form of combat.

Brazilian music
Music is an integral part of Capoeira. During the game, the players are accompanied by live music, most often by players of instruments such as the berimbau, tamborim and pandeiro. These instruments create a rhythm that sets the tempo of the game and also interact with the players, who respond to them with their movements. Music gives Capoeira its characteristic rhythm and emotional depth.

Basic fighting techniques
Capoeira includes a wide variety of fighting techniques, including kicks, punches, dodges, escapes, and acrobatic moves. Players try to use these techniques to avoid the opponent's attacks and at the same time prepare space for their own attacks. Capoeira is unique in that it combines martial skills with acrobatic elements, making it a visually appealing art.

Team and community
Capoeira is more than just a physical art; it is also community and culture. People who practice Capoeira often form strong relationships and form teams that train and perform together. Most Capoeira groups have their own traditions, rituals and values that encourage respect, cooperation and learning from others. Capoeira also serves as a tool for preserving and sharing Brazilian history and culture.
